Restoring a File with Shadow Copy

Background

  • Any files stored on your N:or Z: drives are backed up to tape nightly for disaster recovery purposes.  In addition, a service called shadow copies makes snapshots of your files at midnight, 3AM, 6AM, 9AM, Noon, 3PM, 6PM, and 9PM each day.  These shadow copies record any changes made to files as well as allow recovery of deleted files and folders.  The shadow copies go back about two weeks depending on usage.

  • Shadow copies do not exist for the C: drive, U: drive or any other local drives and USB sticks.
