On August 1st, we will be removing the default Oracle Java install on CAT supported Windows desktops. We are taking this action in order to maintain the security of CAT supported desktop Windows systems. Due to recent changes to licensing from Oracle, we are no longer able to freely install newer, patched versions of the Oracle supplied Java environment.
We don’t have a good idea of any general programs out there that require the presence of a system-installed version of Java. Most larger software packages that need it come bundled with a specific version that works for them.
If you know of any software that requires it, please let us know. We will work with you to identify a possible solution. This may include buying a specific license for your need or using the freely available OpenJDK Java environment that may work for some applications.
