This probably comes as no surprise to most ArcGIS users in MCECS. The old ArcGIS Desktop (often run as ArcMAP) that has run on various systems in MCECS has long been announced as end-of-life soon. We’ve noticed that the old license server (run by OIT in conjunction with the Geography dept) has been down intermittently and that OIT has removed the ArcGIS desktop program from their lab computers. The ArcGIS install site run by Geography no longer lists the old version of the application either. All recommendations are to use the newer ArcGIS Pro.

Anyone who may be still using ArcGIS Desktop needs to move to ArcGIS Pro. The licensing for ArcGIS Pro is different – users will notice that it requires a login with your Odin Account to grant you access to use it.

We intend to remove the old ArcGIS Desktop application from our Windows computers soon.
