Starting Monday, April 18th, we will be testing the placement of MCECS single sign-on authentication “in front of” the web-based Remote Desktop application that some users access at rdp.cecs.pdx.edu.

This move is to provide an additional security layer since this service allows direct logins to many of our Windows systems from off campus. It does mean that there will be two levels of authentication required for some users, usually using the same login/password combination, to get to their Windows computer using this service. We are expecting that our remote lab users will not experience this problem because they would have needed to already be authenticated to the intranet before going to this location through the remote lab page.
This will only affect users who are using the web-based remote desktop service. Those who use the VPN and connect to windows computers using a native remote desktop program will not be affected.
