MCECS provides 1Gb/s ethernet to all the wired computers connected to our network. However, to mitigate outbound Denial of Service attacks, we limit each switchport to about 50Mb/s of Internet-bound traffic. Download traffic and traffic to elsewhere in PSU is not limited.
This means that if you are attempting to send data to a remote site, or a remote site is trying to pull data from your computer, that traffic will be restricted to a maximum of 50Mb/s.
For researchers, this may be noticeable for users who are trying to push out large amounts of data from a lab or office computer to a site elsewhere on the Internet. If this presents a problem, please contact us and we can make arrangements to set up specific exceptions.
Note, this does not affect download speeds to PSU.
