Our projected Fall 2018 Linux software list is enclosed. The sponsor/contact column represents who we currently know as the licensing contact or primary/major sponsor for the package.
If you are an MCECS faculty member who is using using anything from this list in your classes or projects/research, we need your feedback on the following:
- Which items in this list do you expect your students and/or groups to be using during the coming Academic Year? (Let us know, even though you may not consider yourself the primary sponsor)
- Have you been erroneously listed as the contact or sponsor? Or are you missing as the contact or sponsor (especially if you have taken over the responsibility recently)?
- Is there anything in this list that should be REMOVED? (ie: should not be installed for Fall 2018)
- Are we MISSING anything from this list? (This is important as we want to ensure that things don’t slip our radar as we make changes.)
- Do you have a newer version for us to install than the one we currently have available?
- Will you be testing the software yourself or do you have any assistants/students who will be doing that before Fall 2018? (We are migrating to Ubuntu Linux 18.04 – Bionic – for the new academic year.)
- Do you have anything that needs to be added to the systems? (If you are getting new software and they come with license agreements requiring PSU signatures, allow enough time for interacting with the PSU contracts office.)
In the list, for Fall 2018:
- CECS Labs (FAB 55-17 Linux systems) and CS Labs will migrate to Ubuntu Bionic (18.04 LTS) for the coming academic year
- RHEL5 (RedHat Enterprise Linux 5) runs on eve/walle (ECE) and archive (ARC)
- RHEL7 (RedHat Enterprise Linux 7) runs on mo (ECE)
- Most of these systems are also accessible from off site (the Redhat hosts and the CS Particle Lab require the use of the VPN)

- “system” implies something that is packaged for the operating system
- “addpkg” implies an external package we provide user configurations for through our AddPkg environment
- “custom” implies an external package for which users get instructions for configuration from their faculty or TA
