Ubuntu Linux upgrade schedule for labs and login servers – September 2018

We will be migrating most user-centered Ubuntu Linux systems (login servers and Linux computer labs) to version 18.04 LTS (Bionic). The migration schedule looks like this.

Sep 12 evening (under cover of the building power testing):

babbage.cs.pdx.edu
ruby.cat.pdx.edu
rita.cat.pdx.edu
dbclass.cs.pdx.edu

ada.cs.pdx.edu will be down during this outage but we will keep it at the previous release (Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial) until a little past the start of Fall term. This is as a “just-in-case” place for CS classes that may run into migration issues and need some time to convert.

Sep 17/18/19/20:

We will be upgrading the following labs during this week.

CS Particle Linux Lab – FAB 88-09
CS Penguin Linux Lab – FAB 88-10
FAB MCECS General Computer Lab (Linux hosts) – FAB 55-17

The majority of the work will happen on Sep 18 (Tuesday) but there will be testing, debugging and clean up that happens on some systems during the course of the week.

Please check your software and course assignments for compatibility using this virtual machine running Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic):

bionic.cecs.pdx.edu
