There are two ways to print from a remote computer, such as a laptop. The first will only work if you need to print to computer lab printers, such as eb325 printers. You can follow the steps at: http://cat.pdx.edu/network/papercut-2.html
The second option will work for both lab printers, and for departmental printers.
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO DO THIS EACH TIME YOU CONNECT TO THE VPN IN ORDER TO PRINT
The first is to set up a VPN connection http://www.cat.pdx.edu/windows/maseeh-college-vpn.html
After you have set up the VPN connection, open the connection to vpn.cecs.pdx.edu
From here, you have two different options for setting up the printer you wish to use.
Option 1:
1. Open the Add Printer Wizard by either going to:
Start -> Devices and Printers
Or Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers
Find the Add Printer wizard and open it.
2. Select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer"
3. The wizard will start searching for available printers.
If the list is not showing up, Stop the search and select "The printer isn't listed"
You will have to manually enter the printer name. For example, if you wished to connect to the black and white printer in EB 325, you would select “Select a shared printer by name” and type \\hela.cecs.pdx.edu\eb325bw1
If you are asked to authenticate with a username and password use your Maseeh College username, in the format CECS\username.
Option 2:
Open Windows Explorer and type \\hela.cecs.pdx.edu in the address bar. You will need to authenticate with your Maseeh College username and password. The username needs to be in the format CECS\username.
This will bring up a window (as shown below) that lists all printers available for connection through Hela.
To connect to a printer, select it, right-click on the printer and select “Connect...”
At this point, you will have successfully added the printer to your list of printers, and will be able to use it for printing as long as you are connected through the VPN.
