NOTE: In order to create a VPN connection you will need a previously configured internet connection under Windows 7. This tutorial assumes that you have an established connection.
Important things to know before you start:
- YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE A CECS WINDOWS ACCOUNT TO USE THE VPN. Please see one of our front desks for an account if you're eligible.
Step 1: Start the “Network and Sharing Center”.
To do this, click on Start->Control Panel->Network and Internet->Network and Sharing Center
You will see a screen similar to this one:
Click on “Set up a new connection or network”.
Step 2: Choose "Connect to a workplace"
Step 3: Choose “Use my Internet connection (VPN)” (as shown).
Step 4: Type in the internet address as well as a name for the connection.
Step 5: Enter your CECS username (in the format CECS\username) and password, then click “Connect”. Click “Close” when connected.
Step 6: Under "View your active networks", click the link right below the connection that you just created. Choose a location where you will use the connection the most.
Once you have chosen a location, you may configure and connect/disconnect to the VPN via Network and Sharing Center
