SOLARIS - pine will no longer support Maildir format mail boxes Print
Written by Janaka Jayawardena

When we switched our mail servers to support the Maildir
mailbox format some years ago, we performed a code hack
to pine (the mail program) on Solaris to make it support
Maildir format mailboxes. This was to ease the
disruptions that pine users would have experienced with
that change.

Recently, we have found instabilities in pine and
no longer feel that locally maintaining the Maildir
hack is worth the effort.

We will be replacing the custom pine currently
available on Solaris with a version from OpenCSW.  This
will no longer support the Maildir format but be able
to get to your mail via a properly configured IMAP
connection.

Linux, which has used the pine clone alpine
which does not support Maildir, will not be affected.
